Is a Recession the Best Time for a Divorce?

According to one lawyer, it is.

Joe Cordell, a St. Louis divorce lawyer is, in his words, recommending a pragmatic approach if a breakup is eminent. He thinks that if you want to minimize the amount of property your soon-to-be-ex is going to get, you should divorce when stocks and property values are down.

While Mr. Cordell focuses his practice on representing men, another attorney states that women can take advantage of bad economic times during a divorce as well. If, for example, she has been laid off, she can argue she needs additional alimony or child support.
